Jin-Haori
¥19,000
Origin and Name
The name comes from “Jin” (military camp) and “Haori” (a traditional formal coat). It was originally designed to protect samurai from the cold and rain while they were at camp.
Purpose: Beyond Protection
While it offered some protection from the elements, its primary purpose was visibility and status.
- Identification: It allowed commanders to be easily spotted on the battlefield.
- Fashion Statement: It was a way for samurai to show off their wealth and taste. They often used expensive, exotic materials like silk, gold brocade, or even imported wool from Europe.
Design Features
- Sleeveless: To allow for easy movement of the arms during combat or when commanding.
“Think of it as the ‘power suit’ of the samurai. It wasn’t just for warmth; it was about looking imposing and heroic on the battlefield.”
