Description
While standard sizes are beautiful, they aren’t perfect for everyone. For our valued plus-size friends, we passionately recommend our bespoke tailoring service. Personalized, hand-stitched tailoring gives you that ideal shape.
A tailor-made yukata from Sakaeya generally starts at around 68,000 JPY (depending on your choice of fabric).
For this special client, we required more width than a single standard bolt (反) could provide. One bolt just wasn’t enough width to wrap her elegantly. We prepared two matching bolts just for her! Currently, we still have an excellent selection available in matching pairs.
Why is kimono and yukata fabric so narrow? It’s a heritage of traditional handlooms. The entire construction of the kimono is a brilliant system of efficiency, maximize use from that fixed narrow width. It’s a completely different philosophy from Western pattern making, which cuts large pieces from wide cloth.
These narrow strips have remarkable lateral strength. They won’t easily stretch out at stress points like the hips or bust, ensuring incredible durability. And for those who think deeply about it, traditional hand-stitching allows the seams to be unpicked easily, making upcycling a breeze. It’s a sustainable choice for your closet! 🌱👘
Let us help you discover your perfect, tailored fit. We offer both rentals and a curated selection of fabrics for bespoke creation.
